Once registered, all visitors have free access to the entire library collection, both digital and analogue.

The library books are systematically catalogued and shelved according to pre-determined criteria based on content. Users are allowed to take items from the shelf by themselves.

The loan periods are as follows: items from the textbook collection (60 days), reference books and theses (30 days), sonography equipment and virtual reality headsets (3 days), learning objects and locker keys (1 day).

You can borrow up to 15 books at a time.

Library card

There is no separate library card for the University Library of the Medical University of Graz; the student or staff identification card of the Medical University of Graz serves as a library card. To use the library's resources, it is sufficient for all other people to register on their first visit with another form of identification.

Library account

The library account in MEDsearch is used to manage, renew or reserve media. You can also view outstanding overdue fines and borrowed items. You can create lists and save search queries to help you with more complex literature searches.

Extension

The library account in MEDsearch is used to organize and manage the loan period of items. This includes the renewal of borrowed items. If an item is overdue or reserved, it cannot be renewed.

Reservation

If no further editions of a particular book are available for loan, the system will automatically generate a reservation button. The reservation must be completed through the library account. To do this, click the ‘Reserve’ button for the item you wish to reserve. The reservation will automatically be queued. As soon as a copy is available, you will receive an e-mail with further information.

Return

Items can be borrowed and returned at the information desk. Borrowed books or locker keys can also be returned to the learning center outside library opening hours during the relevant opening hours.

Fines

Borrowing is free of charge, but overdue fines apply:

Overdue fines per title per day: € 0.20 
Overdue fines per key/basket/learning object per day:€ 2.00
Overdue fines per ultrasound/VR glasses per day:€ 10.00
Reimbursement for lost keys:€ 25.00
Reimbursement for loss or damage of a charger / battery charger (sonography device):Replacement of the same model and brand of equipment

Damaged/lost books

If an item belonging to the University Library is damaged or lost, the person responsible must replace it. If you damage or lose a book, you must pay for it at the bookshop price (minus 10 % if available). Damage includes, but is not limited to, stains, marks, torn pages, or loss of accompanying materials.

Account lockout

The library account will be blocked if the loan period is exceeded or fines are not paid. Other reasons for blocking an account are damaged books, breaches of library rules (e.g. unacceptable behavior in the library or towards staff) and failure to collect / deliver ordered items (document delivery).

Confirmation of no pending obligations

To graduate, you will need a confirmation of discharge from the library. You may not have any outstanding books or fines when you apply. After we have checked your account, we will e-mail you the Confirmation of no Pending Obligations within two working days.
